Wedding hair accessories - 1920s Gatsby theme

So after quite a long (okay, very long..) break from writing we are getting back into the swing of things with some more 1920s themed posts!

Today we are taking a look at accessories to go with those gorgeous dresses from our last post!

This headband looks absolutely decadent! It is under £10 so a bargain if you are looking for something that will really stand out on your big day!

This ebay seller has 13 different styles of hairband to choose from! I thought this one was beautiful but there will be one to go with any dress in this line-up! Another bargain at under £10.

If you want to go really OTT then something with a feather might be for you! Again at under £10 you really don't have to spend a lot of money to look like you've stepped right out of the Jazz Age.

Would you choose to have some 1920s glamour at your wedding?

Wedding flowers - Sunflowers

I've said before that I love sunflowers. I would love to have sunflowers everywhere on my wedding day.

My mum is going time it just right to start growing sunflowers in her garden for my wedding to save on costs!

This little centerpiece would be so easy to create yourself.. I've already started collecting jars for lots of little projects!

How cute are these Sunflower cupcakes?! Cupcakes are a great alternative to a huge tiered cake and it means everyone can just help themselves to one! If you have some talented family members or friends then it wouldn't cost too much to make something similar for your own wedding!

If you are having an outdoor wedding, I think this simple idea is gorgeous!

I love how simple and rustic a bouquet of sunflowers can look. I think this is something I will be doing at my wedding. There is something so lovely about the colour yellow that I just love for a wedding!

You could give people a little hint of your sunflower theme with the invitations. These could be a great DIY project for you can your bridesmaids to do!

Why not have your bridesmaids in gorgeous sunflower yellow dresses. They would tie in beautifully with your bouquet and with all the flowers during the day! This one is available on ebay.

No matter the weather, even if it is pouring with rain, sunflowers will brighten up your wedding day!

Decor - a touch of Disney magic

What bride wouldn't want a touch of Disney magic at their wedding?! (Well maybe not every bride, but at averybrokebride we are all for a bit of Disney!)

How gorgeous would these Disney paper flowers be as a bride's bouquet? You can buy these ones on Etsy or if you are super creative you could try your hand at making something similar yourself!

Paper crafts are so popular on Etsy at the minute! This gorgeous garland would be a lovely decoration for any wedding venue.

How amazing would it be to cut your cake with this pretty cake knife and serving set?!

I just love this subtle nod to Disney.. Not all of your guests will understand the Beauty and the Beast reference, but those who do will be very impressed!

This is something I would 100% do at my wedding! Best part is, my husband-to-be is called Andrew and is obsessed with Toy Story. Perfect!

There will definitely be more Disney to come on our blog, but for now we hope you have enjoyed this little selection!

Would you include some subtle hints of Disney or go for a full-on themed wedding?

Think pink!

What girl doesn't love a little bit of pink? So why not on your special day theme your wedding pink?

There are so many ideas to chose from out there. Some pink bunting...perfect for a barn or marquee wedding. We will be showing you at a later date how to DIY your own bunting! The one featured below is available from Amazon.

You could also use the pink paper rose wreath we handmade and featured on a previous blog post:)

There are some gorgeous vintage cake designs to tie in with this theme. Irma is keen to have a naked wedding cake. Here is a gorgeous one decorated in a beautiful pink floral design.

These cakes below were featured on cakegeek. Very fabulously vintage.

Or perhaps this one decorated in lace would be a better alternative?

I sourced this beautiful pink bridesmaids dress for a bargain price of £10 on ebay

And these pink shoes...well I might have to invest in these myself...just because! I found these featured on weddbook. Totally lush!

Would you consider thinking pink on your big day? Let us know what you think. As always we appreciate your feedback!

Wishing you Luck! :)

A while ago I picked up a horse shoe 6" template tile, naked and ready to be decorated. Today I am feeling lucky so it's time to decorate the lucky horse shoe :)
I have decided to go with blue to fit in with Irma's piece on a blue themed wedding.

I began by painting the material in Annie Sloan Antoinette paint which I had lying around. It makes a nice background. I gathered together my 50 shades of blue! ;)

Then with a bit of imagination and a glue gun I created this very cute little horse shoe :)

Perfect to decorate your wedding venue/party or perhaps you just want to present one to the bride and groom to wish them well. All the products used can be purchased from any good craft store. I even found the gorgeous silver heart clasp at a craft show! Beautiful!

Reception - Drinks!

So, if you're planning a budget friendly wedding with a vintage feel then these are the perfect way to serve your guest's their drinks! Better still, it is self-service!

These mason jar drinks dispensers are gorgeous and add a really quirky feel to your big day.

You can make your drinks look extra pretty by adding fruit to them. You could even do totally homemade cocktails or mocktails!

These can be found on ebay for the bargain price of £17.99!

It would also be really cute to add little DIY labels in front of these drinks dispensers telling guests exactly what is inside.

Maybe some little blackboard labels like these ones might be up your street. They could be stuck onto the glass itself or onto a little card in front.

DIY - Paper rose wreath

Nothing like a bit of craft in the sun! Definitely good for the soul :)
Irma and I were so inspired by our paper flower wreath that we decided to make another floral beauty.

This time we decided to create our wreath out of some of the paper roses we had purchased from the craft show. They are just so versatile as we have used them on our other projects I am sure you will have noticed.

Again we painted the cardboard wreath with a lovely pink paint and then wrapped it with these different colours of paper roses. Finishing off by hanging it with some gorgeous lace. The finished result was just gorgeous we hope you will agree :)

Would you decorate your wedding venue in this sort of design? Or perhaps you would just like one to hang in your kitchen ;)

Do let us know what you think by leaving a comment. We really appreciate your feedback as always.

DIY - Save the date!

So today we were thinking about the run up to the big day and those all crucial "save the date" cards, So your guests have plenty of notice of your big day :). The cardboard luggage labels can be purcased from any craft store or post office at a very reasonable rate for 50 or more! However, it's what you decide to do with them that counts :)

Perhaps some diamante studded hearts...simple yet gorgeous!

Or perhaps you would prefer something like this? (which is our personal favourite).  All the materials for this are purchasable from any craft store or we got ours from a craft fair held recently in the Kings Hall, Belfast.

Depending on your colour scheme you could have one of these with the appropriate coloured flower/button attached.

Or perhaps some lace and a button?

We used the hearts cut from this one to make the one at the top (no wastage here!).

There are soooo many ideas, these are just a few we thought we would show you today :)

So would you choose any of these designs for your "save the date" announcements? Let us know what you think by leaving a comment. We really appreciate your feedback!

DIY - flower girl floral crown

During our craft day we decided upon making a little floral crown which would be beautiful for the flower girl/s on your wedding day.  We started our project with these paper roses and a plain girls hairband.

These paper roses were purchased from a craft fair and reasonably priced and the hairband was purchased at a local chemist.

So simple and very effective :)

And here is our gorgeous model showing you all how effective our little creation is :)

Simply stunning! What do you think? Would you like this on your flower girl? Or perhaps you would just like one for your darling little princess or youself ;) Let us know your thoughts by leaving us a wee comment!

DIY - paper flower wreath

We decided seeing as it is such a nice day today we would get crafty. Today's DIY is super easy, super cheap and super cute!

Most of the things you need for this DIY can be found at any craft store, pound shop or even supermarket. You may also have some of these things in your house already so remember to have a hunt around before going and splashing your cash!

You will need:
  • Cardboard ring (these can either be bought from most craft stores or can be made from any cardboard you have lying around)
  • Lace or ribbon to hang
  • Paper craft flowers of varying sizes
  • Tiny buttons
  • Adhesive gems
  • Glue gun (available from hardware and craft stores)
  • Paint (we used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in the colour Antionette because we already had some from other projects)

If you exclude the glue gun and paint you could get everything else for under £5 and still have plenty of flowers and buttons left over for other projects!

1. Firstly we painted the cardboard ring so that any little gaps showing through would be this gorgeous pink rather than grey.

2. We then experimented with the flowers on the ring until we were happy with how they looked.

3. Using the glue we stuck the paper flowers to the cardboard ring, layering them to create a really cute effect.

4. We then stuck some buttons onto the larger flowers (this is also a closeup of the sheet of gems)

5. We then thought some little gems would look nice on the smaller flowers that were tucked away underneath the larger ones to hide the pink cardboard.

6. Thread some lace through the hole at the top (if there isn't one already in the ring then use a hole punch to make one) to hang your gorgeous wreath.

Isn't it just lovely!!
